Research highlights that many principals are often unprepared to lead effective inclusive schools or to adequately support special education programs due to a lack fundamental knowledge about IDEA policy and instructional leadership for students with disabilities. Furthermore, negotiating the competing demands of ESSA and IDEA is significant barrier to effective inclusive schooling leadership. This session will present emerging research on leadership for effective inclusive schools and offer solutions to these leadership issues culminating in a call to action for effective inclusive leadership.

Participants will be able to:

1. Leave with a foundational understanding of best practices for developing effective, inclusive leadership and how principals' decisions influence inclusive school culture.

2. Learn immediately actionable leadership strategies that exemplary principals use in developing and sustaining an effective, inclusive school culture.
