Specially Designed Instruction in Co-Teaching: Three Mistakes We’re Making and How to Correct Them

Co-teaching has become a relatively common way of accomplishing the dual purposes of inclusive education and curriculum access, student outcomes continue to be a concern. Perhaps the most important missing ingredient that could change this situation is the integration in co-taught classes of specially designed instruction (SDI). In this webinar, co-teaching expert Marilyn Friend will help you understand what SDI is, and how to make sure your students are receiving appropriate instruction. After this webinar, you will be able to: 1) Explain to colleagues and administrators what specially designed instruction (SDI) is and is not and how it directly relates to the roles and responsibilities of special educators who co-teach. 2) Analyze examples of SDI and how those are or could be integrated into co-taught instruction. 3) Create and use a realistic system for documenting that SDI is being delivered to students with disabilities in co-taught classes.
